Bay Nature MagazineBay Nature is "An Exploration of Nature in the SF Bay Area". They've been one of our favorite magazines since they launched in 2001, and we connected with them to build a web version of their publication. We developed a custom (Plone-powered) content-management system and integrated several 3rd party apps and services including OpenAds, the Pleiades Geocoding engine, a robust Varnish-based caching system, and a bespoke mapping application. The SF-based members of the Zentraal team also use this site to find new hikes and parks to explore. |

USAID Property Rights and Resources Governance Portal
Launched in the summer of 2009, the Property Rights and Resources Governance Information Portal contains data and analysis that spans nearly a decade of research in both academia and in the field by USAID and several dozen partner organizations. The site provides a platform for knowledge management and collaboration for USAID staff and partners working on these vital issues. In 2010 we upgraded the site with new functionality including improved search tools, mapping functionality and AJAX-based tools to create a more engaging user experience. |

California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences
California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences is consortium of 3 UC campuses (UCSF, UCB, UCSC) developing effective new solutions to the world's most urgent biological problems through multidisciplinary research, innovative educational programs, and industrial and venture capital partnerships. The Zentraal team configured an administrated a custom high-performance Debian Linux server. We provided performance tuning that increased site performance from 4 requests/second to 30+ reqs/sec while reducing server RAM usage by 50%. We consistently provided responsive support to technical and scientific staff We successfully transfered server administration and software development skills to UCSF staff enabling them to reduce costs by managing more of their infrastructure in-house. |

swissnex San Francisco is an initiative of Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER), managed in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs as an annex of the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco. swissnex San Francisco is a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas in science, education, art, and innovation. Nautilus InstituteNautilus Institute is founded on the idea that it is possible to build peace, create security, and restore sustainability for all people in our time. Nautilus Institute is a community of scholars and practitioners who conduct research on strategies to solve interconnected global problems. With networks of partners, we develop and apply these strategies to the linked threats of nuclear war, urban and energy insecurity, and climate change in the Asia Pacific region. We've helped them build a Plone-based publishing platform that also functions as their intranet for their globally distributed team. We also provide as-needed support to help their in-house IT staff deal with their most challenging technical issues. |

USAID Resource Management Portal
USAID is the government agency providing US economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years. The Resource Portal is an online library which houses more than 10,000 resources on topics relating to international development. The Zentraal team provided performance tuning and HTTP caching acceleration configuration for a high-performance computing cluster. We onsistently provided responsive support to the technical team on their most challenging technical issues. We implemented a new visual design for the USAID Resource Management Portal which met all federal and international standards for accessibility. |

Nature and MoreNature and More Foundation is the industry group for organic agriculture in the European Union. The came to us seeking a better way to connect consumers to growers. The application we developed with them provides a rich-media platform for organic growers to tell their stories. The site features an advanced multi-lingual content management engine. Embedded videos help bring the grower stories to life. We are currently developing a mobile site, launching Q1 2011, which will enable consumers to learn about the growers of their products at the point of sale. |

International Society of PsychoneuroendocrinologyIn this project with the Stanford Medical School, we're provided both a public web presence for the organization and also a secure intranet. The CMS manages the membership database, proposals and award nomination and voting processes. We also have a conference registration system for their annual conference. Coming in mid-2009 is a directory of researchers and a publications database with the materials from the 2009 ISPNE conference. |

NanoScienceWorks"Providing Content and Community to Nanoscience researchers" We work with scientific publishers Taylor & Francis Group to create this portal. The site supports an active community of more than 2000 members who use the site to share their research and lean about new developments in nanotech. The site features a directory or researchers and institutions, database of publications and news aggregation service. The site allows Taylor and Francis publishing group to share exclusive content and to get valuable feedback from the community about which topics are important which helps inform their print publishing activities. |

Bay Area Integrated Regional Water Management PlanThe Bay Area Integrated Regional Management Plan is a nine-county effort to coordinate and improve water supply reliability, protect water quality, manage flood protection, maintain public health standards, protect habitat and watershed resources, and enhance the overall health of the bay. We've developed this portal as a digital library and collaboration space for the IRWMP organization. The site catalogs more than 200 project listings and provides a secure intranet workspace for each. These tools were so effecitve that the IRWMP decided to provide secure workspaces to the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies project. We've also built a custom tool for generating e-mail updates of new site content. The open source software developed in this project is now being reused be several other IRWMP collaboratives in California. |

Malta Vision 2015The Maltese government has identified seven sectors for development which will enable the Maltese Islands to build on the existing competitive advantage and achieve even greater success. This site provides a public web presence to this project as well as a secure intranet for project management. The public-facing site provides an overview of the project as well as a survey tool for members of the Maltese public to help guide the priorities and actions of the project. The intranet site provides a secure workspace for the project team to collaborate and share materials. |

Durham Public SchoolsDPS is a public school district serving 32,000 students in Durham, North Carolina. The district's in-house IT had used Plone to develop a powerful web presence serving teachers, students, and parents. They called us in as 'special forces' to solve some issues that they found challenging including security updates, custom templating, and Plone buildout troubleshooting. This project is an example of our "Plone Special Forces" model where we support teams with existing Plone developers with specialist problem-solving. |

USDA National Institute of Food and AgricultureCongress created NIFA through the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008. The organizations aims to improve economic, environmental, and social conditions in the United States and globally. We assist NIFA with development and support of their Plone-based intranet. Every day more than 500 NIFA staff members start their workday by logging into the site. We've helped NIFA with troubleshooting some longstanding technical issues with the site, as well as creating an extremely robust strategy for backup and recovery that has become a template for other organizations. We've also helped NIFA implement their a redesign of the site making it easier for staff members to find the most crucial information. |

World Institute on DisabilityThe mission of the World Institute on Disability (WID) in communities and nations worldwide is to eliminate barriers to full social integration and increase employment, economic security and health care for persons with disabilities. WID creates innovative programs and tools; conducts research, public education, training and advocacy campaigns; and provides technical assistance. We support their work with a Plone-powered CMS as well as Linux systems administration services. |
